City jails “hesitant” to house Catholic priest, attorney says

September 24th, 2008, 1:09 pm · 31 Comments · posted by Rachanee Srisavasdi

The Rev. Luis Eduardo Ramirez, who was sentenced to 180 days in jail last month for bringing a 17-year-old to a motel room and giving him alcohol, is having problems finding a city jail to take him, his attorney said.

Ramirez, who served at Our Lady of the Pillar parish in Santa Ana before his January arrest, was supposed to start serving his sentence at a private city jail today. But a judge decided Tuesday to give him an extension until October 21 to report to a jail.

His attorney, Gary Pohlson, said today the cities of Huntington Beach and Fullerton have declined to house Ramirez because of concerns of keeping a priest protected from other inmates.

“Jails have been hesitant thinking of how they would need to protect him from other inmates,” Pohlson said. Ramirez has an interview at Seal Beach’s facility next week, he added.

You have got to be kidding me! Down deep inside he is a regular man and deserves what he get just like anyone else.

  • Laughing Cow says:

    He’s deadmeat!!!

  • JO says:

    Theo Lacy will take him!

  • CAN says:

    So what?
    Big deal.

He is just a man like everyone else.
Being a priest does not put you above the law.
    Ever.
I know he’s catholic and they claim to be Christians, ( I disagree) but those who claim to be a Christian should be mindful of doing what is right in the eyes of God.

  • Why should this priest be protected from the other inmates. He too a 17 year old boy to a motel, he gave him alcohol, tried to order porn, lied to his parents and does anyone have any question what was next. Throw him in with the other in mates and let him take his chances. Just maybe he’ll get justice.

I see no reason to protect him. Let his god protect him.

  • sopadecaracol says:

he’s a criminal and should be seen just as any other criminal.

  • AndyKinLA says:

Geez, what’s wrong with this country?!? Hell, by now there should be a whole line of good ol blood-curdling catholic priest joke comments here… and what do I find… NOTHING! Make me not even want to read this stuff anymore. Come on people, get with the program.

  • audiogirl says:

As a taxpayer, and a Catholic, I say we stick him in whatever jail he would have gone to if he weren’t a priest.

He deserves whatever horrific things he gets. Shame on the church for protecting these sickos.

May I ask a personal favor of my Catholic bros in the clink? Can you make sure that this guy gets his very own welcoming party?

I hope he enjoys his new “parish”

NO WHERE IN THE BIBLE, HAVE I FOUND A PLACE THAT GOD DID NOT INTEND 1 MAN, FOR 1 WOMAN.

GOD DID NOT INTEND FOR HOMOSEXUALITY, NOR DID HE INTEND FOR MAN TO BE ALONE. THEREFOR THE REASON WE SEE SO MANY PRIESTS MOLESTING CHILDREN, AND BEING HOMOSEXUAL IN THE MOLESTATIONS.

LOOKS LIKE THEY COULD NOT BE FURTHER AWAY FROM GOD, PERFORMING BOTH.

I THINK IT SPEAKS FOR PRIESTS IN GENERAL.

  • mw says:

who was there to protect the boy? i say … throw em in.

  • victoria says:

Throw him in with the wolves.. I bet he’ll like it after a while.

  • Robert says:

Put him in any old city jail. Let him learn the consequences for doing what he did. In this case he is no one special nor should he be treated as some one special. Can’t believe he only got 180 days.

  • caseclosed says:

Rev. Luis Eduardo Ramirez, is one taco short of a combination plate. There are so many porn priests they could have there own jail.

  • High Desert says:

17 yrs old boy, can’t he make up his mind or does he have a mind of his own?

  • Fran Morphy says:

It’s tragic that this priest is getting ‘protection ‘from evil doers. His disgraceful behavior does not warrant special treatment or leniency. His behavior demands serious punishent without protective measures. Added to the fact that he tried to rent a porno movie makes it even more shameful.

  • Spence says:

What’s most interesting about this case is that Orange County Law Enforcement is admitting that they can’t protect an inmate!

Also, is there any chance of deporting this knucklehead to the Vatican once he is out of jail?

  • Janna says:

That’s discrimination. Why should he get special privileges because he is a pervert who claims to talk to God?

    Eff this country. Seriously.

  • It’s great reading all the posts about letting this guy take his chances in the jail because of what he did. But if he were to be beaten or killed in the Orange County jails, because of his crimes, then everyone would be complaining about that. I love this liberal state.

  • OC Rag Reader says:

Another fine product of the catholic church. Lock this pervert up in the city zoo, not the city jail. Throw the molester to the lions and let them feast. Turn the predator into the prey!

  • Oldcop says:

I’m not Catholic. I’ll book him AND protect him by placing him in an isolation cell. If I can do it in my little jail, why can’t the county? He doesn’t deserve any more or less protection than any other inmate on similar charges.

  • Barb says:

Rev. Luis Eduardo Ramirez is a real piece of work?

  • AndyKinLA Says: “Hell, by now there should be a whole line of good ol blood-curdling catholic priest joke comments here… and what do I find… NOTHING!”

    Here, I’ll break the ice……..
Q: .What’s the difference between a priest and a zit?
    A: A zit doesn’t come on your face until you’re 13!

  • Lynne says:

why don’t they stick him in the county jail and put him in a one man cell…. that way, the stinkin deputies don’t have to worry about extra protection…… my goodness,

  • hrh says:

They should ask Gustavo Arellano. I’ll bet he could find someplace TOTALLY appropriate.

BTW, love the zit joke. Keep ‘em cumming!

  • Victoria Martin says:

For Cryin’ Out Loud!!!!! The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange Is Incompetent!!!! The Court System Is Incompentent!!!!! The Jail System Is Incompetent!!!!!! People In Orange County Should Hold A Recall Election Of Every Person Who Holds Any Type Of Elective Position In The County of Orange. Change The Name To “The County Of CLOWN TOWN”.

  • hrh says:

Victoria Martin, if you replaced the word “incompetent” in your comment with the word “corrupt,” you will have hit that nail ever-so-squarely on the head.

  • Victoria Martin says:

hrh, I’m thinking that word, but I could not say it; not until I had examined every personnel file and researched all the evidence. Only then could I make the claim of corruption; that is, if I found the proper evidence to suggest corruption. But I would like to know why the State’s Attorney hasn’t stepped in to investigate the goings on in the County of Orange, as well as why the Roman Catholic Church has so much influence to control events in that community.

  • Mexico Donkey says:

    Victoria,
Come now! The Bishop of Orange County tried to have his own depo sealed. When it was released it showed he had credible allegations himself. This priest was not even charged by the DA’s office. Had the DA grown a set and charged him. He might be in jail for at least a couple years.
